Winning in Style
‘In 1998 BMW entered Le Mans with an LMP1 car designed by Formula 1 company Williams F1. Neither of its two entries finished the race. The cars were both unreliable and clumsy looking. Unhappy with the situation, BMW Motorsport Chief Executive Karl-Heinz Kalbfell commissioned a new car, the 99LM, from Williams for the 1999 race, which it won. I was appointed to oversee the appearance of the car while ensuring that it stayed true to BMW’s core design philosophy. This is the final design illustration approved by Kalbfell in Autumn 1998.’ – Peter Stevens
